In photoelectric safety protection devices (such as safety light curtains and measurement light screens), the synchronization method between the transmitter and the receiver directly determines the reliability and anti-interference ability of the system. Among them, "optical synchronization" is an efficient and simple technical solution.

What is optical synchronization?

In simple terms, optical synchronization refers to the situation where there are no physical communication cables (such as synchronization lines or data lines) between the transmitter and receiver of the grating to transmit handshake signals. Both operate independently but can achieve precise timing coordination.

How does optical synchronization work?

  • The transmitter emits infrared light pulses according to a fixed timing sequence set internally. This sequence can be regarded as a kind of "light encoding" rhythm.

  • The receiver continuously monitors the incident light signal and compares the received light pulse sequence with the preset timing pattern that is exactly the same as that of the transmitter.

  • Comparison result: If the received optical pulse sequence exactly matches the expected pattern, it indicates that the optical path is unobstructed and there is no obstruction. At this time, the receiver outputs a "light passage" signal (such as a high level or a safe output); if the sequence is missing or disordered, it is determined that an object is blocking the light curtain, and an interruption signal is immediately output.

The advantages of optical synchronization

  • Simplifies wiring: Eliminates the need for synchronization cables between the transmitter and receiver, reducing installation costs and fault points.

  • High anti-interference performance: Since the receiver only recognizes specific optical pulse patterns, stray light in the environment or the emitted light from other gratings is difficult to cause false triggering.

  • Maintenance convenience: There are no additional synchronization cables, making it more flexible to replace or debug the equipment.

Typical application scenarios

Optical synchronization technology is widely used in various applications such as stamping equipment, automated assembly lines, robot working areas, elevator safety curtains, etc., where non-contact safety protection is required. It is particularly suitable for situations where the distance between the transmitter and the receiver is large or where wiring is difficult.
